©Find is a slower operation, so if you're going to be using it a lot and you know what it is you need, consider hooking into into the script you've posted above in the inspector via public variables. However, I'd take a good hard look at using public static functions too and DontDestroyOnLoad, Helium aluded to with Singletons.
